We are an award winning Black-led organisation with collectively over 25 years of experience in mental health and wellbeing. Melanin Moods was established in 2020 to provide specialist support to Black and Brown communities.
Our special interest lies, in providing a culturally sensitive approach to communities who have not always accessed traditional mental health services.
Whether you’re looking for support for yourself, for your family, friend, employee, customer or service user, our services are designed to reflect the unique nuances of Black and Brown ethnicities & culture on mental health.
We provide specialist workshops, Events and personalised therapy plans, designed and delivered by clinical psychologists and accredited psychotherapists.
We work with individuals from ethnically diverse backgrounds with lived experience of mental health issues. We create and deliver innovative psycho-educational programmes, events, and offer personalised 1-1 therapy to discuss and raise awareness, challenge stereotypes and support the mental health and well-being of individuals and communities from Black and Brown backgrounds.
We are always open to collaborate with the NHS, Mental Health Charities, Faith Communities, and Community Organisations to enhance their capacity to better understand, engage with and improve health outcomes for the Black and Brown people that they work with and support.
We are so excited to share that we have been recognised as a BBC1Xtra Future Figure for 2025. This is so exciting for us, and we are honoured to receive this recognition.
Honestly, words fail to describe what this means to us. We started Melanin Moods in 2020, with just a heart and passion to improve mental health for our community. No money, no investors, no funding, just a dream and vision of how this could begin to remove the taboo, reduce stigma and increase resilience in Black & Brown communities.
- In 2023 we made it official and registered as a C.I.C.
- In 2024 we won our first award through Reyac Awards.
- In 2025 we are recognised as a BBC 1Xtra future figure!
Over the five years we have been going, we have worked with hundreds of people through our events, workshops, and therapy. Soon we’re gonna have to start saying thousands 🎉
At one of the events we attended on Friday someone asked us how we are funded, and Dr Chanelle Dennis jokingly answered “through our hearts”. Whilst, this was said in jest, there is a huge truth in this. We are majoritvely self-funded because we do truly love this work (send some funding our way). But, to see that this work is being recognised, and unbeknownst to us, that our organisation had been through a whole screening and judging process before it even came to our attention is incredible. It shows that our work is meaningful, that it matters, and that it is needed.
We still have SO much more to give, and although we are already five years in, this is JUST the beginning. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Community, this is for you!
Love Chanelle & Talisa 🤍
